Construction
Nielsen archtop
jazz guitars are made from the same tone woods
used for making stringed orchestral instruments.
Tops
Spruce
is typically used for guitar tops. I offer several choices among spruce species. Each top is parallel-braced
on the inside from the same species of spruce.
Backs and Sides
European
figured maple is normally used for the back and sides. My personal goal is to make each Nielsen guitar to the highest
possible standard using the best materials available, selected for tone, temperament and figure.
Necks
My
necks are often referred to as '3-piece necks'. The material most often used is Eastern Hard Rock Maple and they're laminated
with .006" black dyed maple, using graphite reinforcement rods alongside a double-action truss rod. Thy're joined
to the body with traditional dovetail joint.
Appointments
Appointments
are normally executed using Madagascar Ebony with genuine Mother of Pearl inlay.
Each top and back is 'tap-tuned' during construction.
Tap-tuning is repeated frequently during the making of the guitar body. This continuous monitoring and adjustment
ensures proper voicing of the finished instrument.
Nielsen Custom Guitars is a 'one-man-shop'.
Each instrument receives my undivided attention from the design process through delivery. I can't foresee ever being
more than a one-man-shop because I feel that would invite a compromise of your expectations as well as my standards for quality.
